To turn back the signs of again, an individual may choose to have a facelift procedure (Rhytidectomy). This procedure lifts the cheek and neck skin in an up and backward direction thereby decrease the hanging neck skin and jowls. In some cases, other procedures are combined along with a facelift in order to attain optimal results, such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose surgery.

A good candidate for a facelift possesses the following qualities:

• Skin on the face and neck that has begun to sag
• Good skin elasticity
• A bone structure that is still strong and well-defined
• Good physical health
• Non-smoker

What to expect during your initial consultation:

It is important that you discuss all of your questions and concerns during an initial consultation with a skilled Chicago plastic surgeon. She can evaluate the condition of your face (and underlying bone), as well as discuss your expectations and goals for surgery. In addition, the cosmetic surgeon will discuss your medical history and any current medical conditions you are facing. This is also the time when you will need to give important information, such as if you smoke, take any drugs, or medications; these will affect your surgery and healing process.

How is a facelift performed?

The surgery will be performed in an office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or a hospital. Either local anesthesia or general anesthesia will be given to the patient.

The procedure will take several hours to be performed. In most cases, the doctor will make an incision along the hairline at the temples, extending from the natural line in front of the ear and continue along the earlobe. She will then separate the skin from the fat. The fat will be trimmed or suctioned out from around the neck and chin (i.e. liposuction). The muscles are then tightened and the skin is pulled back; excess skin is trimmed. The surgeon then stitches up the incision.

After surgery

There will be minor discomfort after surgery and numbness of the skin is normal but it is only temporary, lasting only a few weeks. You will be able to be up and around after two days, and be able to resume to regular activity after about two weeks.

• At the Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery ALL of our hair removal is done by a Registered Nurse. The Educational Requirement to become a registered Nurse is a Nursing Degree from an accredited University / College of Nursing.
• Most of our competitors use Aestheticians. Some of Illinois requirements to become an Aesthetician are; Have a valid Illinois Cosmetology License, be at least 16 years of age, have a minimum 8th grade education and complete at least 750 hours of training.  If they have not completed high school or do not have a GED, they must pass an, “Ability to Benefit” test.
• Although there are many good and well qualified aestheticians out there, the Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery has chosen to only allow College Educated Registered Nurses to perform all of our laser procedures.  We feel that the more medical education one has, the higher the likelihood of recognizing potential skin health problems that may exist.

How much time does it take to remove hair with a laser?
Everybody has a different body with genetically programmed hair follicles. Some follicles are in what’s known as an active stage while some follicles remain dormant.  The only follicles that can be treated with the laser are those in the active state.  That is why it is essential that multiple treatments take place as to try and catch as many follicles as possible in their active state.  These treatments are usually spaced one to three months apart.  The number of treatments is dependent on the individual.

What Lasers does the Women’s Institute of  Cosmetic & Laser Surgery use for its Laser Hair Removal Services?
The Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery uses the eMax Laser System by Syneron.  What sets eMax apart from many lasers is its large spot size which makes the treatment faster and more efficient.  The eMax’s also uses a combination of Radio Frequency (RF) and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) combined technology.  These two technologies work simultaneously to help maximize the removal of  an active hair follicle’s continued ability to grow.

Does the eMax Laser actually remove the Hair?
When it comes to the term, ” Laser Hair Removal” really means the preventing of a hair follicle’s ability to regrow hair.  Unlike waxing which pulls the hair out of the follicle where it will likely grow back, Laser Hair Removal helps prevent the follicle from regrowing hair.
