Cosmetic Surgery Checklist*

Before you decide to undergo any surgical procedure be sure to ask lots of questions.  The checklist below from the Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery will help get you started with a few of the many questions you may choose to ask before deciding on a cosmetic surgery procedure.

 

Yes No       Is the physician you’re considering an actual plastic surgeon? Did they complete a residency or fellowship specifically in plastic surgery or was it in another specialty?

Yes No       Is he or she Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the Society is composed of more than 7,000 physician members and represents more than 94 percent of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

 

Yes No       Can the physician you’re considering state that they nor anyone in their office has never been sanctioned by a state or governing body like the Illinois Division of Professional Regulation?

 

Yes No       If you’re a female, does your physician understand how this surgery may affect you as a woman or the pressure society places on women?

 

Yes No       Does the specific physician performing the surgery have hospital privileges at any hospitals?

Yes No       For those who want better anonymity, does your surgeon offer a private & accredited office operating room suite?

 

Yes No       Is the surgical facility accredited by a national or state-recognized accrediting organization?
