Differences Between Botox and Dermal Fillers

Differences Between Botox and Dermal Fillers – Botox and facial fillers are both very effective, non-surgical injectable treatments offered at the Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery. However, these products consist of different substances and they each address signs of aging on the face in somewhat different ways.

Differences Between Botox and Dermal Fillers

Below are a few of the major differences between Botox and facial fillers and how each can minimize telltale signs of aging on the face:

* Botox is a single form of facial injectable that is made with a purified protein neurotoxin.
Facial fillers is a general term for a group of facial injectables that can contain hyaluronic acid, collagen or other substances that are effective for reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Both Botox and facial fillers yield positive results that have helped thousands of women refresh their appearance and boost their confidence.

* Botox addresses signs of aging by the temporary paralysis of facial muscles so they don’t contract and cause wrinkles to form when certain facial expressions are made. This includes fine lines on the side of the nose to deep lines between the eyebrows, across the forehead and around the eyes. Facial fillers are effective for the treatment of facial aging by adding volume to thinning, sunken areas, smooth the skin and fill in folds and smile lines. Botox also treats crow’s feet, lines that form on the neck and “dimpling” of the chin. Facial fillers too can address wrinkles on the cheeks, chin, lips and jawline as well as signs of aging around the mouth and nose and under the eyes.

* With Botox, results typically endure for about four to six months, and consistent treatments are required to preserve the results. Results from dermal fillers, alternatively, can last anywhere from six months to over two years based on the type of filler applied and the treatment area. Like with Botox, regularly scheduled treatments are essential to maintaining the results.
