Laser Vein Treatment – Spider veins are clusters of small red, blue or purplish lines that typically appear on the legs or on the face, where they are sometimes termed facial capillaries. Spider veins are generally harmless, even though just their appearance can cause women who have them to feel self-conscious and avoid wearing certain clothes such as shorts or swimwear. Spider veins can cause a sensation of burning or aching, particularly when standing for extended periods of time. At the Women’s Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, we perform laser vein treatment for our patients that effectively gets rid of spider veins and facial capillaries.
Laser Vein Treatment – How It Works
Essentially a concentrated beam of light, a laser is a very effective tool for the treatment of this common issue for many women. As the beam makes contact with the area targeted for spider vein treatment, it transforms into heat. This inflicts damage to the vein and causes the blood inside of it to clot. After that, scar tissue forms that shuts off the vein and – because its blood source is “turned off” – causes it to gradually fade away.
Laser vein treatment performed by our skilled cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Hein, is a reliable non-invasive procedure for elimination of spider veins and facial capillaries. Typically, patients have a number of sessions scheduled about six to 12 weeks apart. Needles are not involved in spider vein treatment and there is no need for incisions. Some patients report minor discomfort from the heat of the laser, but that sensation is minimized through cooling. Each spider vein treatment only takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The number of sessions needed to get the best results can vary depending on each patient. Patients can resume their regular activities immediately following their treatments. There may be a degree of redness at the treated areas that usually fades within one or two days.
